41st IFMSS Annual Meeting

Getting There

Getting to Ireland is Easy …

Air access to Ireland is frequent and easy from most parts of the world.

  • Ireland is only 6 hours from the US, 2 hours from mainland Europe, and 45 minutes from the UK.

  • A real plus for our US visitors is the pre-clearance of US Customs & Immigration in Dublin and Shannon.

  • Once here, getting around is very easy. Ireland is a small country and you can travel from east to west in approx. 2 hours.

  • There are direct flights to Cork from 30 EU and 5 UK cities (Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, Swiss, KLM, Topflight).

  • There are direct flights from 23 EU, 6 UK & 3 US cities into Shannon airport which is just over 2 hrs drive from Castlemartyr.

  • There are almost 200 direct flights into Dublin from 29 European, 10 UK, 22 North American and 4 Middle Eastern cities.

Following the presentation, a light lunch will be served.

Please let us know in your registration form if you would like to take advantage of this transportation. If you have your own transportation, you are still invited for the presentation and lunch.

Rotunda Hospital History

In 1745 Bartholomew Mosse, surgeon and man-midwife, founded the original Dublin Lying-In Hospital as a maternity training hospital, the first of its kind.  In 1757, the institution moved to a different location where it became “The New Lying-In Hospital”. This is the hospital complex that is referred to today as simply “The Rotunda”.

The Rotunda is unique as an institution in that it has continued to provide an unbroken record of service to women and babies since its foundation in 1745 and has occupied its present premises since 1757.
