“Hands on” Fetal Therapy Simulation Course

We will host a Fetal Therapy Simulation Course in the ASSERT Centre, UCC (University College Cork) on Friday, September 27th, 2024. This one day program will provide an excellent opportunity to explore fetal intervention techniques in detail, to gain practical “hands-on” experience with instruments, equipment and the procedures, and to receive constructive feedback on your performance. Our faculty are all very experienced fetal medicine practitioners from some of the world’s leading fetal medicine centres and procedures will be performed using lifelike maternal and fetal simulation models. This course is suitable for practitioners who perform fetal interventions and also for those who have some experience, but would like more training in this area. Instruction and groups will be adjusted to suit your experience level. Participants will also be provided with the opportunity to develop/join a perinatal network for sharing and discussion of challenging cases in the future.
Workshop sessions will include the following areas:
Placental Vascular Dye Injection demonstration (and opportunity for “hands-on”, depending on level of interest)
Needle / Trocar Insertion & Access
Direct Entry
Seldinger Technique
Cord Occlusion: Bipolar Forceps, Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA) & Interstitial Laser
Fetoscopic Tracheal Occlusion (FETO), & Fetal Airway Balloon Removal
Fetal Shunts (Chest & Bladder)
Laser Ablation of Anterior & Posterior Placentae
Placental laser: 3D Digital Simulation
Fetal Blood Sampling / Intrauterine Transfusion
The cost for this day is €900 (includes breaks/lunch/dinner/syllabus material).
