About the Logo
Just as ultrasound and fetoscopy are two of the pillars of modern fetal medicine and surgery – so do lighthouses and quaint “Cape Cod”-style wooden houses with their shingled roofs form the signature image of coastal New England. The style pays homage to woodcut illustrations of old books, tarot cards and the multitude of quaint shop signs one still finds around here. The silhouette of seagulls is a nod to (or a shameless lift of) the logo of the Chatham Bars Inn, where the meeting takes place.
About the font: Appropriately, to accompany a light house, the font’s name is “High tower.” It was designed by Tobias Frere-Jones, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design – both a local institution and a world-renowned Art school. The design is inspired by the fonts of William Caslon (1693-1766) and Nicolas Jenson (1420-1481); the latter was one the preeminent printers in France, and was the first to present the form and proportion of the Roman font, which was soon copied by everyone. The font designed by Caslon was the type used for the Declaration of Independence of the United States in 1776.
