About the Logo

The logo shows a fetus with an umbilical cord doubling as a caduceus - the ancient symbol of medicine.

Embryo Sculpture

During 1994’s meeting, every delegate was given a sculpture (right) by artist, Louis Smeyers.

Smeyers, a sculptor as well as a painter, was captivated by the sphere surrounding the beginning of life. His primitive-style paintings mainly represent family life. Within the concept of a sculptural form both restrained and pure, indeed almost classical, he created figures of women, young children, and fetuses in Keramine, a synthetic alloy which he handpainted in polychrome. He was awarded several City of Leuven Medals and three National Government Prizes.
